RONETE COHEN
I am a psychologist and psychodynamic psychotherapist who works with individuals and relationships. I also offer supervision and consultations. I specialise in GSRD (Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversities: LGBTQ+, non-monogamies, kink, sex work) and race, culture, neurodivergence and disability. I have specialist training in trauma, PTSD and CPTSD (complex PTSD), and dissociation. I have extensive experience of working with adult survivors of childhood trauma. I speak English, Hebrew and Dutch.
I work in central London and online. You can see me online if you can't get to my practice because of a disability or chronic illness. You can see me online if you're neurodivergent and coming to my practice is overwhelming. I'll adapt to your sensory issues: if you want me to switch off cameras or use chat when you're non-verbal, I will. You can see me online if you're part of the GSRD communities in countries where there aren’t many queer therapists (I work primarily with people in the Middle East, but also elsewhere). Due to Covid-19 I am currently only working online.
I have a Drs (BA and MA) degree in Psychology from Leiden University in the Netherlands. I trained in Experiential Dynamic Therapy (EDT): first in Intensive Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (IE-DP) with Ferruccio Osimo MD, Psychiatrist, former Adjunct Professor at Milan University School of Psychiatry and former President of IEDTA (International Experiential Dynamic Therapy Association); and then in Affect Phobia Therapy (APT) with Kristin A.R. Osborn, Director of Harvard Medical School Psychotherapy Research Program and former President of IEDTA. I am a Certified APT Therapist and Certified APT Trainer. I trained in Somatic Trauma Therapy with Babette Rothschild, and in treating trauma and dissociative disorders with Kathy Steele.
I'm a Pink Therapy Clinical Associate. I'm a member of the London GSRD Practice. I'm a Pink Therapy Advanced Accredited Gender, Sex & Relationship Diversities Therapist. I'm an Accredited Member of the NCS (National Counselling Society). I'm a member of BAATN (Black, African and Asian Therapy Network). I'm a member of ESTD (The European Society for Trauma & Dissociation). I've resigned from my Registered Membership of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) because I disagree with their involvement and promotion of SCoPEd (see here).
I'm an adviser for Scarleteen (the US independent, grassroots sexuality education and support organisation and website) and have advised the Dutch expertise centre on sexuality (Rutgers WPF) on LGBT youth. I'm a member of Sense About Sex, a group of interdisciplinary academics, activists, researchers, writers and practitioners who are keen to get good information and resources about sex and sexuality out to the public and media.
I write about psychology. I've written a chapter for a book on psychotherapy on the use of EDT to treat an underachieving gifted adolescent. I've written articles and regular advice columns in magazines and online. I share my expertise in the media.
